The effect of the ex piation is to redeem what was lost, - the work of grace is to purify what was corrupt. The be liever exists in a probationary state. He begins to be relieved from the burden of indwelling sin, -to put off the old man, and to put on the new man, -to recover not only the energy and purity of his original nature, but to attain to a yet more exalted state than that from which he fell, and to the hope of a still more intimate communion with the author of his being.
