Highway Geometric Design: Application of Design Standards in InRoads is primarily intended for use as a textbook in university-level courses that deal with roadway design. This book is aimed to apply geometric design standards in InRoads to design a typical highway interchange. This is the first edition from the draft manuscripts that have been extensively tested in the classrooms at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (or Cal Poly Pomona). The chapters in this book have been structured to reflect students' learning process. Key features of this book include: Highway geometric design is a safety-centered design. This book places more focus on how to apply standards, control criteria and project constraints in horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, and cross section design. Different from other books that are tutorials of design software, this book describes the process and procedures on how to use design standards and controls, step-by-step, in the design of a freeway, ramps and ramp terminal intersections. This book considers the geometric requirements of an undercrossing bridge and its falsework, as well as culverts under the freeway and ramps. The book extensively uses design standards from California State Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The process and procedures employed in this book can be useful for students who are interested in the design standards and controls of other state Departments of Transportation (such as New York Department of Transportation (DOT), Georgia DOT) for the interchange design. Design software InRoads from Bentley is selected in this book. The design process and procedures described in this book can be implemented in other design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
