Overview

It all begins with a generation of artists who view their life's work as dismal failures and a waste of that life...in service to a medium that refuses to die, grinding its way through generation after generation...until it collides with creatives who can't even begin to imagine why anyone would ever want to do anything else. This is the history of comic books, alongside the misbegotten midwife whose growth, whose refusal to truly grow, serves as its decades-long and distorted mirror... Fandom. Collects HEY KIDS! COMICS! Author Information

Howard Chaykin is a longtime veteran of the comic book business, serving as an artist and writer for nearly every publisher of comics in the past four decades...and counting. He took the '90s off to work on mostly unwatchable television, so he missed the money and dreck that was comics in that execrable decade. He is responsible, some might say culpable, for introducing a number of previously unexplored themes to comic books. If you're not hip to what that's supposed to mean, there's always Wikipedia.
