Overview

Readers fall in love with 15 year old Gladys in 1950 when she falls for a young man from the wrong side of the tracks, they follow her as she escapes one violent alcoholic marriage only to be murdered by her second husband. Then in 1971 they meet her 17 year old daughter, Ellen, on the long car ride to North Carolina as she tries to get her younger sister out from the clutches of the murderer's family. Find out how Ellen's marriage ends with 6 children, a wholesome upbringing and a shattered image as her children find alcohol no matter how she tries to shelter them from sin. Finally Marcia tells her story, she is Ellen's daughter and as an alcoholic herself, reveals the battles she faces after hitting and killing a pedestrian drunk driving in a blackout. She battles for her life against an enemy that wants her destroyed, alcoholism and addiction, but comes through to relay the message of shame, remorse, self-forgiveness and redemption that she finds in recovery.

"""""Her Family Tree"" is a gripping memoir that delves into the lives of three generations of women, each facing their own trials of abuse and addiction. Through vivid storytelling, Horn paints a raw and powerful picture of her family's struggles. Marcia's own battle with alcoholism and addiction adds a deeply personal layer to the narrative, culminating in a message of hope and forgiveness. Horn's writing is honest and impactful, offering a compelling exploration of the lasting effects of secrets and addiction on families."" -MMN ""I couldn't stop reading, I wanted to know what happened next. Some parts are very painful to read and you wonder how anyone could survive going through so much turmoil. It is also a story of hope and the power of forgiveness."" -Kathy V. ""This story was engaging and impactful with incredible honesty and emotion. Marcia has turned a tragedy into a positive impact on many lives, and I'm sure this book will continue to do the same for those who read it."" -Kathleen E. """"Her Family Tree"" by Marcia B. Horn is a poignant exploration of the generational impact of alcoholism, set against the backdrop of personal tragedy and eventual redemption. The book unfolds through the lives of three women, Gladys, Ellen, and Marcia, each battling the specters of alcohol and violence in their way. From Gladly's fatal struggle with an abusive marriage to Ellen's attempts at shielding her children from their legacy and Marcia's journey through guilt and recovery, Horn weaves a narrative that is both heart-wrenching and hopeful. Marcia B. Horn, a first-time author and a member of the recovery community, does not shy away from the stark realities of addiction and its aftermath. Her narrative is imbued with a deep understanding of the complexities of alcoholism, the pain it inflicts, and the strenuous path toward healing. Horn's own story-marked by incarceration, survivor's guilt, and a hard-won battle with self-forgiveness-serves as a compelling testament to the possibility of redemption. Ideal for readers touched by addiction or seeking an understanding of its profound effects, ""Her Family Tree"" is not just a story about the struggles with alcohol but a broader commentary on love, loss, and the indomitable human spirit. If you've ever wondered about recovery, self-forgiveness, or how to confront personal demons, this book offers both insight and inspiration."" -Matt R."
