Henry Wilcox: Henry Wilcox

Overview

Henry Wilcox is a quiet, emotionally grounded novel about a man at a crossroads. After personal and professional collapse, Henry retreats to the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota with an old friend, hoping distance and wilderness might bring clarity. Instead, the unforgiving landscape forces him to confront grief, regret, and the choices that shaped his life. As danger closes in and survival becomes uncertain, Henry discovers that healing doesn't come from escape-but from reckoning with who he's been and who he still might become.

Author Information

Dakken Haes grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where long winters, vibrant neighborhoods, and the hum of Midwest life shaped his early character. Driven by curiosity and opportunity, he eventually ventured far beyond the Twin Cities, traveling the world for work and immersing himself in cultures far from home. His journeys placed him at the crossroads of history. While in Germany, Dakken met the commander on duty the night the Berlin Wall fell, listening to the firsthand witness of the collapse of one of the world's defining divisions. His path later crossed with families and individuals who had fled Iran after the revolution, giving him profound insight into resilience, displacement, and the human cost of geopolitical change. Not all of Dakken's adventures were heavy, though - some had a touch of comedy. During a trip to Australia, a curious koala (with the sly confidence only Australian wildlife possesses) snatched his baseball cap right off his head, leaving Dakken with a story his friends and family still laugh about. Above all, Dakken's greatest pride is not in the miles he's traveled, but in being the father of remarkable daughters, whose strength, wit, and kindness continue to inspire him every day.
