Overview

The fury of war rages on. So does her heart ... Amidst the darkest days of war. A driven, determined young nurse risks it all. Can she save them without losing her soul? Somewhere near Passchendaele, 1917. Sophie Romano is ecstatic, her life's dream flicking at her finger tips. A war nurse at the Casualty Clearing Station, she prepares to heal and comfort injured and dying soldiers. The crude conditions under cold, leaky canvas, surrounded by thick sticky mud and screaming shell-shocked soldiers are no deterrent. Even a cruel and vengeful superior from her past and a love triangle that rips at her heart, cannot dissuade the strong-willed Sophie's devotion to her calling. Until ... The night sky bursts into orange-crimson fire and the thunderous quaking of the earth fills her with dread. The nightmares return and she must hide her secret terror or risk being sent home. Surrounded by the chaos of war, she fights for her patients and battles her divided heart. Can she rise above the fury and quell her tormented spirit?

Heart of Sophies War Reviewed in Canada March 2022 Dealing with the men who had been hurt in the war, or the families that suffered after being bombed out, was devastating to see, and be part of. With a brutal amount of work in the hospital, and prevailing illnesses it was an awful time to be a nurse. Sophie was working to get into France to help the injured, she wasn't sure she could handle it. With death of some loved friends all around her, Sophie didn't know where life would lead her next. With all she accomplished and learned Sophie ensured she could endure nursing in the Western Front. This book takes an innocent lady to the brink of her strength and commitment to her nursing career. This is an excellent book, full of emotional highs and lows.
