He has taught in the UK (Loughborough University and SOAS), and at Webster University in Tashkent. He has published widely, and presented at conferences. Elena Maestri is Professor of History and Institutions of the Muslim World at the Catholic University (UCSC) in Milan. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in Arab Gulf countries, with research on history, development, gender, and media. Her works include books and a great number of articles and book-chapters. Annemarie Profanter is Associate Professor at the Free University of Bolzano. She has focused her research on intercultural pedagogy, women in the Gulf, polygyny, and Muslim migration in Europe.
