When publishers Bloomsbury decided to publish Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997 it had already been rejected by 12 other publishers but Bloomsbury took a gamble, paid GBP2,500 for UK & Commonwealth Rights and invested in an initial print run of just 500 hard backs. From such modest beginnings the Harry Potter brand rapidly expanded to become a worldwide phenomenon: seven books, eight films, a play and themed ""Wizarding Worlds"" in the UK, USA, Japan and China. In the quarter of a century since launch Harry Potter and his world has captured the imagination of several generations of children, young adults and grownups too.
