Handling Death and Bereavement at Work

Overview

An estimated 3,500 people die every day in the UK. Individuals' deaths may affect the workplace in many ways. If an employee or an employee's partner dies, managers and colleagues will need to deal sensitively with the difficult issues that arise from death. How should one refer to what has happened? What influence does religion have? How much time for emotional recovery is reasonable? These challenging questions are addressed in this book, and other pertinent issues are discussed, including what do in the event of a sudden death at work, managing staff with terminal illness, and practical tasks after death including funerals. The book breaks new ground in placing bereavement on the management agenda rather than leaving a company's response to chance. Including checklists, further reading and a list of useful organisations, this revised edition is an essential guide for anyone who has to take responsibility in the event of death.
