Reviews

"Halifax Calling is reminiscent of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables both in timeline and historic elements. ""Maud,"" is equally bright-a young woman who wants to start her own business. But she becomes a victim of vicious gossip, and employment proves difficult to find and maintain in the tiny community of East Cove. Mossman's story is a stark reminder of what women had to endure; in a time when we were not regarded as equal, reputations could be damaged simply by rumour, and obtaining a loan was next to impossible for a woman. -Trena Christie-MacEachern, author of The Light of Day and Karma"

Author Information

Marie Mossman's roots thrive on the soil and sea waters of Nova Scotia. Her stories contain truths from research, from life experience, and from information casually shared at the kitchen table. In grade school English classes, she enjoyed parsing sentences, and reserved her imagination for day-dreaming, a realm where it would flit, free of the red correction pencil.Maud, the heroine of Halifax Calling, was a minor character in Mossman's first novel, A Rebel for Her Time, published by Moose House in 2020. Mossman is a co-author of Less Than Innocent, a lockdown story; and a contributor to Blink and You'll Miss It, Moose House Stories Vol. 2.
