OverviewIn 2004, the Vienna University Library (UB) was the first university library in Austria to begin systematically reviewing its holdings and scientifically analyzing its own acquisition policy with regard to National Socialism. Later, the university archives and academic collections also became the focus of research. Provenance research also established itself as a separate research discipline. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Nazi provenance research, the history of material objects at the University of Vienna is being revised through a critical historical review of Austrofascism and National Socialism and their processing. Representative case files of Nazi provenance research from the broad spectrum of libraries, archives, and collections, as well as their remembrance-cultural processing at the University of Vienna, demonstrate the active contribution of the Vienna University Library to the remembrance of the victims of National Socialism and to the international research field.
