Overview

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad was a railroad in the Southern United States. The first World War had forced government operation upon the company; and in 1919, when it became once more a free agent, it chose Ike Tigrett to charter its new course. On September 13, 1940, it was merged with the Mobile and Ohio Railroad to form the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Rail transport is a means of conveyance of passengers and goods by way of wheeled vehicles running on rail tracks. In contrast to road transport, where vehicles merely run on a prepared surface, rail vehicles are also directionally guided by the tracks they run on.
