OverviewThe classical theorems of Sylow, Burnside, Schur and Frobenius are often first used to show that the smallest single group has 60 elements. In these lecture notes, the student uses the same theorems, but does so in combinations. The discovery is that any group with fewer elements is a semi-direct product of cyclic groups and a 2-group. The student then learns how to classify all the ways of representing each group by permutations or linear transformations. Some familiarity with the notion of a group is recommended, but not required.
