Overview

In an update to her foundational work, Good News Preaching, Brooks frames the essential methodology of good preaching: the importance of real, transformative good news. This second edition of Good News Preaching accounts for changes in the landscape of church and culture--including a global pandemic and shrinking congregations--and argues that the good news of God's grace and liberation is ever more essential for Christian discipleship.

Reviews

Dr. Gennifer Brooks passionately narrates her blueprint for good news preaching. She eloquently articulates in accessible language the key components and processes essential to sermon preparation and delivery, and thereby models the instructional, relational, and empowering tutelage that she embodies throughout this work. Laity, as well as weekly and occasional preachers, will benefit greatly from engaging this book. -- Rev. Barbara Fears, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Religious Education, Howard University School of Divinity. In this revised edition of Good News Preaching, Gennifer Brooks continues to teach us that every sermon should lead listeners to encounter the transformative presence of God! This book offers accessible and practical methods and insights for preachers to identify and share Good News amidst the changing and challenging realities of our world today. This book will continue to be an essential introduction to Christian preaching. -- Rev. Andrew Wymer, Associate Professor of Preaching and Worship, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary What a gift to preachers that Dr. Gennifer Benjamin Brooks has continued to think about offering Good News as we preach. This 2nd edition includes more examples, a clear indication that Dr. Brooks listened to responses from those of us who used the book in seminary classes. The new sermons are a feast, as were the ones in the first edition. I hope homiletics professors will use this updated edition, and that preachers will get the book for their ongoing education and inspiration. The second edition is more good news. -- Rev. Valerie Bridgeman, Associate Professor, Homiletics & Hebrew Bible, Methodist Theological School in Ohio
