Overview

Unanimously considered to be the father of the body horror film genre, David Cronemberg gave sight to a film genre that explores man's terror in the face of bodily mutation, infection and contamination of the flesh, interweaving the psychological element of the story with the physical. He proposes a reading of the following films: Videodrome, Naked Lunch, Crash, The Fly. Matteo Cremonesi, traverses the work of the Canadian director, attempting to delineate a semantic territory whose compositional elements are as topical today as they were yesterday. The collected texts expanded and revisited in this publication first appeared on the Visual culture research platform Phroom Platform during a period from 2019 to 2022. In collaboration with the same platform we repropose a collection of them here. The author: Matteo Cremonesi, born in Milan (1986) Artist and teacher. He studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His work as an artist investigates the formal arrangements of contemporary habitat with a particular focus on the aesthetic evolution of the disciplining languages born within the dominant productive culture. Lecturer at NABA, (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) and Deputy Director of the online platform Phroom for which he writes regularly, he lives and works between Milan and Trentino Alto Adige.
