OverviewGlaucoma is a frequent eye condition in which vision is lost as a result of damage to the optic nerve. This condition can lead to blindness. The information necessary for vision is transmitted from the eye to the brain via the optic nerve. The optic nerve is typically harmed whenever there is an increase in the pressure of the fluid that is located in the anterior segment of the eye. Despite this, damage to the eye caused by glaucoma can still occur even when the fluid pressure is normal. Fluid moves without restriction within the eye, but the intraocular pressure has a tendency to gradually increase over time in the most prevalent type of glaucoma, called primary open-angle glaucoma. In most cases, the only sign is a slow but steady loss of vision.
