Overview

The Northwest Territories is divided into several districts including the Franklin, Kewatin, and Mackenzie Districts. This is the first book in a two part series addressing the Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic geologic history of the Kewatin District, also known as Nunavut. In this book, the Kewatin District is presented starting with the North Baffin Island geology including the Committee Belt, and the geology of the Baffin Orogen. The discussion includes the Isortoq Fault Zone, the Sheensby Domain, and the Northeast Baffin Thrust Belt. The Central Hearne Supracrustal Belt involves discussion of the Kavanak, Tavani, Henik Segments along with a synthesis of the supracrustal belt. The Snowbird Tectonic Zone, the Eastern Rae Craton along with the Rae Craton is presented along with a discussion of the Slave Craton, Thelon Tectonic Zone, Taltson Magmatic Zone before closing out with the only known Phanerozoic cover in the Sverdrup Basin. This book summarizes many of the Geological Survey of Canada publications available on the subject matter contained herein.
