Fundamental Legal Conceptions As Applied in Judicial Reasoning by Wesley Newcomb Hohfeld

Overview

""Fundamental Legal Conceptions"" was first published as two articles in 1913 and 1917. In 1919 Yale University Press published the articles as a pamphlet edited by Walter Wheeler Cook. The pamphlet was entitled ""Fundamental Legal Conceptions, As Applied in Judicial Reasoning - And Other Legal Essays"". This pamphlet included some of the changes Hohfeld had intended to make before he died in 1918. Thus this title has appeared in several guises with forewords and introductions by many people. For this edition there is a foreword by Dr Nigel E. Simmonds of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and the editors have corrected obvious errors and made a number of minor changes.

Reviews

'Hohfeld's ideas and his work, above all his Fundamental Legal Conceptions are timeless: nevertheless, his publications are unfortunately hardly available outside - and even within - the English speaking world...this new edition of Hohfeld's Fundamental Legal Conceptions as Applied in Judicial Reasoning is fundamental reading for every lawyer interested in jurisprudence and legal theory.' Austrian Review of International and European Law
