Overview

Frank O. Gehry (b.1929) is one of America's most celebrated architects, well-known around the world for his extraordinarily expressive form of architecture personified by the iconic Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (1997). This monograph is a comprehensive record of his long career, presenting approximately 250 buildings and projects spanning half a century from his senior thesis at the University of Southern California (1954) to more recent major works such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California (2003) and the Experience Music Project in Seattle (2000). This authoritative monograph includes essays by renowned critics Francesco Dal Co and Kurt W. Forster. They discuss the development, appeal and transformative nature of Gehry's highly inventive and often provocative work and provide an insight into the architect's design process and inventive use of computer technology that allows him to create such dynamic, baroque forms. With more than 1000 colour and black and white images, this publication is the most complete and visually-attractive record of Gehry's work available. Descriptions by Hadley Arnold accompany the presentation of each project and work and a project register, biography, and bibliography complete this definitive publication of the great architect's prolific oeuvre.
