As a pre-teen he moved with his family to St. Catharines, Ontario where he attended high school. As a young man he moved to Massachusetts where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees. He is an ordained minister and as such served a parish in Dedham, Massachusetts before leaving parish work to head up an adolescent residential program. After returning to Canada he worked as an Executive Director of a large social service agency in Hamilton, Ontario for thirteen years. He has also worked as a certified adult ESL instructor and as a Personnel Officer. While at Seneca College he co-authored two text books on English pronunciation and edited several text books on English grammar and conversation.
