Overview

Following its publication in Augsburg in 1509, the novel Fortunatus was used as a tool to support the territorial and ideological conquests of the Reformation. In the seventeenth century, translators and printers in London joined forces with Huguenot military leaders to reappropriate Fortunatus and weave a tale designed to spread religious propaganda and political opposition.
