Overview

The scope of applications of forensic radiology includes determination of identity, evaluation of injury and death, use in criminal and civil litigation, in administrative proceedings such as workmans compensation hearings, in medical education, and in research. Until now, there has been no single source of radiologic knowledge for various disciplines to turn to when examining X-rays or other radiologic records as forensic evidence. This is the first book to cover the entire spectrum of radiological applications in forensic science.

Reviews

This book contains information on forensic radiology obtained from authentic and highly respected sources, presented by different authors. Essentials are described and additional details are pointed out. The reader is not only amazed at the amount of material but also fascinated by the masterly way it is presented. The book summarizes the knowledge and experience of various authors acquired over more than 30 years. The editor and main author is a master of the anecdote, which is a great help in making the point and catching the reader's attention with a minimum of effort. I recommend the book to all those not only already working in or simply interested in forensic radiology, but also those working in an environment prone to forensic radiology problems. This recommendation extends to the expert, who will find new aspects and new approaches. The book is a must for any library that covers forensic medicine and/or diagnostic radiology. -H. Vogel, European Radiology The book is rich in illustrations, most of which are excellenthas a very high practical value for the forensic practise and will contribute to the increasing introduction of radiological techniques in the forensic practise. International Journal of Legal Medicine, 1999, J12:350 Throughout the text, there are unusual words which sent me to the dictionary - 'benison', 'amanuensis', 'eidolon' - all are used in a perfectly correct grammatical sense. Seldom have I derived more pleasure in reviewing a book. This work should be available to all involved in forensic sciences, and especially to all of us principally concerned with forensic autopsies. --Peter B. Herdson, MB, ChB, B Med Sc, PhD, FRCPA, Australian Journal of ForensicSciences, Vol. 32 This immensely readable, comprehensive and useful book should have a place in every radiologist's library. --G.A. Foote, Australasian Radiology, Vol. 44
