Overview

In the pantheon of rock history - The Move have been overlooked but no longer. How do you describe The Move - one of the greatest British bands to come out the 1960s beat boom? Who incorporated the hippest, pop rock and mod soul influences. All in a unique dazzling fashion. Their residency at The Marquee in London's Soho. Marked them out immediately, as a formidable live outfit. Few (if any) bands on the fertile scene, could follow an incendiary Move set. They also had an emerging uber-talent in songwriter Roy Wood. A fast-developing songwriter. Wood under pressure, composed four top ten hits for the five-piece original band. And a later run of singles that charted until 1972. Like all great acts - the seeds of destruction may have been gestating from day one. Energy and talent was spread across the five charismatic, young men. An edgy, combustible combination. This overdue book examines their event-filled career including their crowning and most damning moment: Being sued by Harold Wilson; the extant British Prime Minister. 'Flowers In The Rain' sprouted all the way to the Number 2 spot in the charts. The catchy single, followed an edgy and careless publicity stunt by manager Tony Secunda. A limited-edition postcard - pushed through the door of Number 10 Downing Street. Depicting the PM with Marcia Falkender in an intimate moment. The ""scandalous"" image - brought the fury of the UK establishment down on The Move. Including surveillance by MI5, Britain's homeland Secret Intelligence Service Like The Sex Pistols furore, ten years later. The Move were punk forerunners in attitude and outrage. This book will examine in detail the High Court case. Plus, the machinations leading to Roy Wood losing all the royalties from the 'Flowers In The Rain' single. Along with Rob Caiger, the main archivist of The Move and their history, Jim McCarthy provides a detailed and illuminating reading experience.

Author Information

Voices Of Latin Rock. -The E-Mix is Jim's considered follow up to his first authored book Voices Of Latin Rock published ten years ago. A companion too and an enlargement on the information contained in the first book. This further e-tome is the most in-depth information available on that heady and exhilarating time in the San Franciscan Bay Area locales and beyond. Jim feels these people and those times need to be properly detailed and preserved for posterity. With the auspicious release of Santana 5 and its present excellent sales, this book arrives just at the right time. The first book arrived in the swell, after the huge sales and surge of the Supernatural release. 2016 is an exciting year for Jim with Living For Kicks - A Mod's Graphic novel, his first original stand-alone graphic book for Omnibus Press. Further book's in the pipeline for a 2016 release are a 2000AD trade paperback Bad Company: First Casualties and Who Are You? The Life And Death Of Keith Moon plus an E-book entitled Ditko - He's A Gas! Also on the publication timeline is Wake Up And Live: The Bob Marley Graphic Novel scheduled for an early 2017 release. Other, contemporary published graphic novels linked to music subjects have been Reckless Lives: The Guns And Roses Graphic, Metallica - Nothing Else Matters. Also in print are Gabba Gabba Hey - The Ramones Graphic, Neverland - The Life And Death of Michael Jackson, three Bad Company paperback collections, Godspeed - The Kurt Cobain graphic, Death Rap - Tupac Shakur, Eminem - In My Skin, How To Draw Monsters For Kids, plus The Sex Pistols Graphic book. Jim has also produced comic art / illustration for many publishing houses in London amongst them 2000AD; for whom he co-created comic characters Bad Company, Bix Barton, The GrudgeFather, Kid Cyborg and worked on Judge Dredd etc.. His first book was published by Hal Leonard in the USA and was titled Voices Of Latin Rock. It is the first book to examine in depth, Santana, Latin Rock culture and the Mission District of San Francisco from where this nascent political and musical art form emerged. This innovative book has resulted in a series of on-going shows in San Francisco promoting Autism Awareness and has been given further credence by appearances by Carlos Santana, the original Santana band, Taj Mahal, Malo, Los Lobos, Sheila E, the political activist Dolores Huerta, Azteca, War, Sly Stone, George Clinton and many others.
