Overview

"Finding Jack Kirby in a Pile of Zinc is part of the ""Getsinger Find."" The author, Joseph M. Getsinger, came upon a large cache of over 8,000 cartoon printing plates from the teens, twenties, and thirties. This was during a poker game with his art publisher and other friends in that field. During research of these plates, it was discovered that many of the cartoonists listed were pen names of presently famous cartoonists, such as Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Bob Kane, and Jerry Iger. Initial research found that Willis B. Rensie was actually Will Eisner who created ""Harry Karry"" and ""Uncle Otto"" featured in the first book, ""The Lost Work of Will Eisner."" The research went on to unveil creations by Jack Kirby of Captain America fame under the pen names of Jackson, Ted, Teddy, Harmon, H.T. Omle, and Brady. Each cartoon plate was hand printed by the author and the best one scanned for this publication. This book is about the discovery and connecting the dots to many cartoons created by Kirby that haven't come to light until now. Part of that collection also identified other cartoonists beginnings. In this book you will discover the missing years of Kirby cartooning and how he progressed from his cartoon beginnings as a teenager to his breakout into the Marvel and DC world with his unique style of cartooning with Captain America, X-Men, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, and many more. An exciting find and discovery for you to enjoy."

Author Information

Joe Getsinger took to reading many of Jack Kirby's cartoon work of the 50s and 60s. His cousin Danny always had a stash of comics in his closet when he went to visit him at his summer home in Brigantine, New Jersey. This also piqued his interest in art and cartooning in his early years of schooling in Camden, New Jersey. He did some cartooning in high school but leaned more towards the graphic arts. This was put on hold when he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. Joe loved working on and restoring antique cars, his first being a stock 1931 Ford Coupe and later a 1958 Chevrolet Delray. His career in law enforcement lasted over 26 years, he married his wife Ginny and raised three boys and a daughter. During that time, he created and published over 250 limited edition prints from the art he created which included golf, waterfowl, firefighter, law enforcement and seascapes. He loved collecting action figures and comics with his children and restoring stained glass and antiques. When he came upon a collection of antique cartoon printing plates a friend had obtained, he researched them an found they were a treasure trove of cartoons created under pen names of cartoonists who became more famous in later years. He wanted to share his discovery of these almost never seen cartoons by the real cartoonists, so he set out to publish them.
