"George Herbert Ely (1866-1958) and Charles James L'Estrange (1867-1947), two English writers who worked together on several children's adventure books, wrote under the pen name Herbert Strang. Charles James L'Estrange was born in Hampstead, London, on November 6, 1867, and George Herbert Ely was born in India on October 24, 1866. They were both students at London's Dulwich College.
