Costa Rica's independence became affirmed in 1850, and its colonizing history started in 1564 when Juan Vasquez de Coronado trans ported 50 families from the Galicia and Aragon regions of Spain to begin the first permanent colonization settlement. These people were said to have been farm folks and they carried horses, cows, and swine to the new homes which'they founded in fertile valleys and river lowlands.
