Author Information

Paul J. Gerber, Ph.D., received his doctorate in Special Education and School Psychology from the University of Michigan. He has been a professor for the past 38 years, 28 at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2010, he was named the Ruth Harris Endowed Professor of Dyslexia Studies. He has written and presented extensively over his career, primarily about adulthood and learning disabilities, his area of expertise. He has written or co-authored 6 books and over 100 articles and book chapters as well as presented his work nationally and internationally. One of his books was chosen as one of the top 20 resources for libraries by the American Library Association. He has been a consultant to the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute for Literacy, and the British Ministry of Health. His interest in dementia is a personal one. He has been intensively involved with 3 family members, all living into their 90s for 10 years. He has used his knowledge of special populations and developmental psychology to write a niche book that helps to provide a basis for conversation and understanding for young children whose families have been impacted by dementia and Alzheimers. Dr. Gerber lives in Corvallis, Oregon with his wife Veronica who illustrated Ferguson the Forgetful Frog.
