Mapped by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from ground surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1961-66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant Commander James E. Fendorf, U.S. Navy, pilot with Squadron VX-6 during Deep Freeze 1966.
