OverviewThis volume studies female labour market behaviour and fertility. The aim of the contributors is to show how the economic approach, which is itself a specification of the rational-choice approach, can be considerably more useful here than it has been in the past, because it offers an excellent theoretical framework for the construction of interdisciplinary theoretical models to explain human behaviour, including female labour supply and fertility. The contributors are experts in the field of demography, econometrics, economics, (social) psychology, and sociology. The results are expected to be of use to theory-based survey projects investigating, for example, the effects on female labour supply and fertility on policy measures aimed at creating better opportunities for women to combine parenthood and paid labour.
