Author Information

​Prof. Michaël Grynberg is an obstetrician gynecologist specialized in reproductive medicine. He completed his PhD on the regulation of follicular growth and AMH production. In 2014, he became a Professor of Reproductive Medicine and head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine & Fertility Preservation at the University Hôpital Jean Verdier, Bondy, France. Since mid-2017, he has been head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine & Fertility Preservation at the University Hôpital Antoine Béclère, Clamart, France.  In addition, he is an active member of the basic research unit INSERM U 1133, Université Paris Diderot-CNRS UMR 8251. His research interests initially included the assessment of ovarian follicular status and the regulation of anti-Müllerian hormone, a key peptide in ovarian function. Over the past 5 years, he has expanded his field of research to include onco-fertility. Indeed, female fertility preservation has recently emerged in the field of reproductive medicine. Michaël Grynberg is a pioneer on female fertility preservation in France and has recently become the President of the French Society of Onco-Fertililty. He is also deputy of the fertility preservation special interest group of the ESHRE and Head of the Fertility Department at the French College of Obstetrician Gynecologists. Prof. Grynberg has authored or co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles in international journals and books. Dr Pasquale Patrizio is an internationally recognized, board-certified specialist in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and Andrology, and holds a Master in Bioethics.  He is a Professor and Director of the Yale University Fertility Center and Fertility Preservation Program.  He is an associate editor for the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, and a section editor for both the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive BioMedicine Online. He was a founding member of the International Society for Fertility Preservation (ISFP) and served as President from 2015 to 2016. He has authored 6 books, nearly 500 articles and book chapters, and holds 2 US patents (in diagnostics and therapeutics).  Among his many contributions to the field, he co-pioneered the Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (MESA) technique; discovered that congenital absence of the vas deferens is a mild, genital form of cystic fibrosis; reported on microdeletions on the Yq chromosome responsible for severe oligospermia; introduced methods for assessing oocyte quality using genetic analysis of cumulus cells; and identified causes of oocyte aging as secondary to follicular and cumulus cell hypoxia.  His main research interests include:  Improving the efficiency of ART, ovarian aging, fertility preservation strategies for cancer and non-medical conditions, ovarian and testicular tissue vitrification, and methods for freeze-drying gametes and stem cells.
