Overview

Many of us miss out on the abundant life Jesus calls us to. People are overly consumed by the troubles and the busyness of the world. Jesus has said that He has overcome all of that for His people. He has gone on ahead to prepare a mansion in heaven for us. We need not worry, but trust in Him. Abundant life means giving God control of our lives and letting Him provide the light to guide our steps. The reason we are here on this earth as human beings is to realize this truth. Through the truth of God's Word, Christians need not stand around waiting for heaven; we can rejoice in the Lord's glory right now. Some people are close to belief in God, but possibly (and tragically) not pushing into the end zone in faith. In FATHER, Football, Xs & Os, Hugs and Kisses, it is asserted that many unbelievers are in the red zone with God. In football terms, we are inside the 20-yard line, ready to score a touchdown. In salvation terms, God is very close. The words I believe are at the very tip of the human tongue. The greatest delight any of us can know is God's eternal, life-saving love found in the gospel. The good news of the gospel is that it checks out because only God could have foreknown and written this perfect love story of redemption for you and me. God died a human death, nailed to a tree, to save us from our human sin.When we receive Jesus Christ, He does a supernatural work in us through the third person of the Trinity--the Holy Spirit. Tom implores those who are in the red zone with God to go into the huddle. Once there Tom both reminds and challenges readers that in the Bible, God has shown us His glory through prophecy and fulfillment. It is, therefore, a time to put off your old self and take on the likeness of Christ. God has created us with a void in our hearts that only He can satisfy. His word is near and close, and ready to be taken upon our lips and into our hearts in a proclamation that Jesus is Lord! Faith in Him is the fundamental purpose for our lives. That is the reason we exist in the first place. To win is to know Him. Therefore, when we get into the red zone with God, we had better be ready, be alert, and know the playbook. Faith in Jesus Christ is the most important call of our lives.Tom acknowledges that by virtue of writing this book, he is squarely in the world's crosshairs. Some will embrace the book and some will despise it. Regardless, Tom has put forward the truth of God's Word. This is evidenced through the use of God's Holy Scripture throughout the text. Thomas Opsahl Tom's defining credential is his faith in Jesus Christ. In addition, he is married to Sharon, his wife of 34 years. Tom and Sharon have four married children: Alicia (Nick), Maria (Dustin), Luke (Courtney), and Samantha (Brent). Tom and Sharon also have 12 grandchildren and pray for many more, if that be the Lord's will. Tom grew up in Duluth, Minnesota (the Scandinavian Riviera), the folkloric rink rat back when hockey was played outside. His dad would pick him up from the hockey rink on a snowmobile--frozen toes and all. He recalls, My dad needed an ice pick to chip me off the sled by the time we got home. Tom is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, with a BA in business. The year Tom graduated from college he married the girl of his dreams, his wife Sharon. He insists that Sharon discovered him at college. But close friends know that this is a far stretch. After college Tom spent two years in the grain business before entering the financial services business, where he remains employed today. Tom and Sharon live in Stillwater, Minnesota. In his early years, Tom was a sports nut...that has not changed with the onset of middle age. The book FATHER, Football, Xs & Os, Hugs and Kisses addresses the thesis that God has proven Himself faithful in all of His promises. In the person of Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the biblical prophecies concerning the Messiah. He is coming again a second time, when every knee in heaven and on earth will bow to Him alone.
