OverviewHordeolums, or eye styes, are a frequent and usually benign infection of the eyelid. It is usually caused by a bacterial infection and is characterised by a red, uncomfortable bump on the edge of the eyelid. Any age can be affected by sties, which can appear on the upper or lower eyelid.
