Overview

Is democracy the best political system there is - for every kind of society? Leading politician Bob Rae sets out his thoughts in this eloquent examination of the West's most powerful ideas. According to Western politicians, democracy is the pinnacle of civilisation. Many think it's the system the rest of the world ought to adopt. Rae presents the dangers of imposing democracy in three countries riven by tribal and ethnic divisions: Iraq, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. An carefully argued book that teaches the dangers of simplistic ideologies.
