Exploration of Space

Overview

When a disaster threatens the Earth, inspiration can spring from unlikely places, but a convent in England? A Catholic nun, supported by her sisters and a mixed bag of scientists and engineers, asks all to stand up and take responsibility for its fate. She is convinced that the people of the world will accept the challenge and do everything they can to secure a hopeful and fair future for all on our planet. Optimistic but not naïve, she has spent time with people who have committed some of the worst crimes imaginable, yet still believes there is a will to look after the most marginalised and poorest. This is a hopeful, future world where governments collaborate for the greater good despite factions in every country wanting to take an isolationist stand. A wide ranging tale, with individual stories colliding in far-flung countries. It is firmly set in our world with more than a touch of social realism. A good yarn, to use an old-fashioned term, but this is just that: characters that you can care about and believe exist. The story expresses the optimism of the author's upbringing in a working class Catholic household where education gave the promise of a better, fairer world. This is a world on the cusp of exploration, ready to take risks and face the challenges of today. The cost of this endeavour is sacrifice, and, as in so many times in history, we are lucky to have people step forward and pay the price. These are the true heroes and heroines of humanity. They are flawed, yet brave, inspirational and selfless.
