OverviewThe terms exorcism, occultation, or concealment (Greek: exorkismos, act of swearing , Latin: exorcismu) refer to the ritual performed by a duly authorised person to expel evil spirits (or demons) from another person who is in a state of demonic possession. It can also refer to the act of expelling demons through prayers and caches (imprecations). In Christianity, the Gospel often records episodes of Jesus Christ casting the demon out of the possessed, and this power was transmitted to his apostles on Ascension Day. However, this or similar practices are quite ancient and are part of the belief system of many cultures and religions. Jesus Christ already spoke of exorcism to his disciples: And these signs shall follow them that believe: in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; and they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. .
