Elizabeth Fry was one of the quiet heroines of Victorian England. Her name is inextricably linked with prison reform, and specifically Newgate, the infamous London gaol which provided material for Gay's ""The Beggar's Opera"" and Brecht's ""Threepenny Opera"".
