Its well-articulated arguments and intensive empirical research make the book a crucial contribution to the recent literature on the `domestic turn' in the Western Balkans and will help readers better comprehend the Europeanisation process in that region. This book will definitely be of interest to students of international relations, comparative European politics and environmental politics. (Alper Almaz, Europe-Asia Studies, Vol. 69 (10), December, 2017) Environmental governance is one of the EU's most demanding policies; the Western Balkans poses enormous problems in building states capable of assuming the obligations of EU membership. Fagan and Sircar's fascinating book provides a detailed account of the challenges posed and the national responses to these demanding processes. Andrew Taylor, Professor of Politics, University of Sheffield, UK Fagan and Sircar offer a fresh look at EU integration and how decision-making in the Balkans is transformed by EU accession. By looking at environmental protection in Bosnia and Serbia, this book offers rich empirical insights into Europeanisation processes. It helps us understand why the accession process of the Western Balkans is more difficult than has been in Central Europe and how the accession process can help consolidate the power of established elites. Florian Bieber, Professor of Southeast European Studies, University of Graz, Austria Europeanization of the Western Balkans rigorously investigates externally supported reform of environmental governance in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. By prioritizing field-based research, the authors do what few scholars of EU leverage are able to do. They uncover the domestic conditions and multilateral institutions' strategies under which Europeanization has the largest and smallest impact on environmental governance in practice. Dr. Paula M.
