Overview

INTRODUCTION The thesis entitled Ethical Discourse on Affirmative Action in Western Philosophy is a critical and analytical inquiry into the issues or problems of affirmative action in Western Philosophy. To initiate the inquiry into the problems of affirmative action, the debatable research questions for favouring and disfavouring the policy of affirmative action have been made the points to discuss, which provides a better understanding of affirmative action policy and it's moral necessity for unprivileged sections of the nation. Affirmative action has been a ceaseless issue in the 1960s in the United States of America. Affirmative action as a policy become the most controversial since its implementation in the USA. This is because, affirmative action policy tries to provide some extra relaxation to the deprived sections of the nation on the cost of privileged sections of the nation. This is the reason, the privileged sections of the USA came farwrad to oppose the policy of affirmative action by assertig that the policy is against the equal treatment of individual. In the thesis, the arguments against the policy of affirmative action and for affirmative action, have been tried to put at one place for easing the path to check the desirability of affirmative action. 1.1 RESEARCH QUESTIONS: The debates over these unanswered questions regarding reverse discrimination appear to be two, but rather metaphysically two different aspects of the same unit. A few philosophers such as Louis P. Pojman, Carl Cohen, and John Kekes believe that there should not be a cluster of policies and laws which are against the equality principle of the formal sort. The policies and the laws deviating from the same should not be included in the governmental policies. The concept of affirmative action is a group of efficacious tools in the form of requirements and plans of preferential treatment directed to edify the left out and under-represented.
