OverviewThe glass window in St. Bavo Church in Haarlem, created by the Haarlem artist Michel van Overbeeke (born 1942) is a rare example of new art within ancient monumental heritage. The window was unveiled on November 25, 2008 by Queen Beatrix. Etching with Light guides the viewer through the images on the window. It describes and illustrates the variety of themes. The different performances tell of dualism and movement, of energy and the creation of heaven and earth, of sustainable peace, love and tolerance. The glass window is also examined from an artificial, ideological perspective. Working glass gives shape and meaning to what is in fact immaterial: light. The window allows light to create a performance for the eyes and reading the text will give understanding to the meaning and depth of this monumental work of art. Text in English & Dutch.
