Excerpt from Engines and Boilers This text book on Engines and Boilers is intended for use in engineering schools which offer an elementary course in Heat Engines. NO attempt has been made to cover the more advanced work in Thermodynamics, or to give an exhaustive treatment of the subject of Heat Power. This work is the result of the author's experience during the several years that he taught classes in Engines and Boilers and in allied subjects at Purdue University. Much of the material was given to the students first in lectures, and later in the form of mimeographed notes. It is now presented in book form with the hope that it may be of value in other engineering schools. At the end of the book a list of representative problems is given. It has been the author's experience that the student obtains a better understanding of the subject if he is required to work problems related to/the matter in the text.
