McCarty, MD, FAASM attended medical school at Duke University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a handful of years of practicing primary care, he studied Sleep Medicine with Dr. Andrew Chesson at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, joining the faculty and taking over as program director upon Dr. Chesson's retirement. In 2015, he left academics to join a new comprehensive Sleep Medicine practice, Colorado Sleep Institute, in Boulder, as its first Medical Director.
