Analyses show that the minute individual cells of which all plants are built up, have thin enclosing membranes (known as cell walls) which in their chemical composition are a combination of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. In a living plant these cells contain the peculiar protoplasmic sap which is proof oi, and essential to, life, and which contains nitrogen besides the above-mentioned three elements.
