Edward Francis Winslow was an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later railroad executive. Winslow was born in Augusta, Maine in 1837. He moved to Iowa in 1856 and began his longtime career in the railroad industry as a conductor. When the Civil War began Winslow enlisted in the 4th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry as Captain. He was promoted to Major in 1863 and was wounded in a minor engagement at Twelve Mile Creek, Mississippi.
