Earthquake

Overview

""Earthquake"" is a catalogue of the author's personal encounters and experiences in the ministry of exorcisms and deliverance. It is not a manual or a ritual of either one or the other. Therefore, it does not contain prayer nor does it elaborate on the actual rites during the various cases mentioned in the body of this work. More or less, ""Earthquake"" is an exposition of the Adam syndrome still innate in humankind despite humankind's coming of age and being at the peak of its intellectual, technological and industrial revolutions. In spite of the fact that humankind have come of age, that both God and natural law have bestowed on it an inborn divine authority, power and dominion over God's creation, the notion that ""You are gods"") Ps. 82:6, Jn.10:34) still evades practicing Christians, intellectuals, and more so, the common folk, who search for power and revelance outside themselves from the dark realm.

Reviews

In this Land, two ""faiths"" lie side by side, like tectonic plates in many a seismic zone. Both are spirit-led, however irreconcilable the two prove to be. The adherents of one believe in the omnipotence of the Almighty. ""Sé Bondyé ki mèt"", they avow. The adherents of the other prefer to pledge allegiance to another Power, another Master - one that rules the shadowy realms of Darkness. Then there are those, however, who, wanting the best of both worlds, allow themselves to be lured into the murky depths of the Dark World. They are the ones ""who sing hymns with one mouth while conjuring spirits with another"". Earthquake chronicles the disturbing stories of the lives and suffering of both the perpetrators and the victims of that all-consuming lust for that unholy power. Standing in the breach is Father La Porte, the mediator, the consoler, the healer, the intercessor. He comes out of this intercessory role bruised and battered, very much like those intrepid responders who put themselves in harm's way to rescue victims of physical disasters. But his efforts have not been for nought. For in The After Shocks we learn the lessons of retribution, of confession, of reconciliation, of hope, of endurance. We are therefore invited to be like Hellen: to win the battle against the forces of darkness ""not by force or cleverness but by endurance, by a heart that refuses to be corrupted, by eyes that refuse to be closed, by a soul that would rather suffer in truth than prosper in lies."" --Dame Pearlette C. Louisy, B.A, MA, PhD, Governor General Emerita, Chair of the Nobel Laureate Committee In this powerful sequel to ""In Turbulent Waters"", the veil is pulled back on the hidden darkness haunting fair Helen. What was once an island of beauty and innocence now reveals a chilling reality--the vulnerable are preyed upon, and the forces of evil seek to corrupt the very soul of society. Through raw reflection and unflinching truth, ""Earthquake"" confronts the spiritual battles

Author Information

Fr. J. Lambert St. Rose, by birth a Saint Lucian and at heart a Caribbean citizen, is a passionate cultural protagonist and an avid proponent of inculturation. He holds firmly to the conviction that the bedrock foundation for an authentic Caribbean theology, catechetical curriculum, evangelization plan, and ultimately a Caribbean Church must begin with the people-their culture, traditions, wisdom sayings, music, and popular religious practices. Despite the darkness portrayed in Earthquake, God remains present among them. Fr. St. Rose's heart and soul are gifts to his people. He is truly a people's person. Their deliverance, redemption, freedom, and salvation are the central occupations of his life. He thirsts for their conversion, spiritual development, and transformation, envisioning their ultimate transubstantiation into Christ, who humbled Himself to share in our humanity so that we might share in His divinity. A Catholic priest for over forty-three years-with no regrets-Fr. St. Rose offers Earthquake, the sequel to In Turbulent Waters, as a partial summation of his decades of pastoral ministry. He holds a Master's degree in Theological Studies from St. Norbert College and the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He is also a poet and novelist. His published works include two anthologies-Helen and Her Sister Haiti (2011) and Our Father: Prayer and Praxis (2016)-as well as In Turbulent Waters (2014). With much humility, he presents some alarming realities that threaten to become tomorrow's popular spiritual devotions-manifest in the bloody human sacrifices now taking place in the open forums of our streets.
