Overview

WELCOME to the exciting world of colorful creations. This fabric design series is a compendium of designs and techniques for creating art on almost any kind of fabric. It is easy and fun for any experience level, especially for beginners! These ideas are based on earth-friendly pigments that you can use at home at your own kitchen table. No caustic substances are used. No special ventilation is needed. It's quick to set up and to play with the pigments and things from around your house. Dye and color the fabrics around you. Make real art for your walls. Color, recolor, or redesign curtains, table linens, old bed sheets, quilt fabrics, art fabrics, clothes, and thrift store finds. Your choices are only limited by your imagination. The colors you use are permanent and washable on any kind of fabric blends: cotton, polyester, or synthetic. They can also be used on leather, suede, lace, feathers, or trims. This book is for the home artist or for artists who choose to develop more technical skills from study and practice. Certain basic techniques are the foundation for more complex layers of color and methods of application. Later chapters show design techniques based on these foundational skills. You will soon begin to understand how much is possible with very simple tools and techniques. When you get to know your imagination and set it free you will find that it is UNLIMITED! This vast resource of creativity is inside everyone and blesses us all because it can produce the greatest gifts you give yourself and others.

Author Information

Juli Sibley is a free-spirited artist, teacher, and writer who lives the life of her dreams in the North Georgia mountains. Her love of beauty and the reflective life caused her to find a home studio on the edge of the forest outside a rural village. The sky, wildflowers, snow, and rain are all part of her daily life. She creates paintings, prints, batiks, and art quilts that portray the mystery and wonder of all life forms. Formal schooling includes a double major in Printmaking and Painting from LaGrange College and a Masters of Arts with a concentration in Fiber from Western Carolina University. Juli lives in a remarkable nature centered community that includes creative activities in every discipline: writers, musicians, crafts people, healers, and storytellers who make dreams come true. Juli is grateful for her teachers, her many students, and the gift of creativity that she believes to be part of everyone's Divine Inheritance.
