Overview

For Reza Sarshoghi, the difficulties of being an entrepreneur were compounded by the struggles of being an immigrant-an Iranian in Canada-who was not only unfamiliar with common Western business practices but also still learning the language. The most important business lessons can't be taught in school, and Sarshoghi had to learn them the hard way. In this inspiring manual, Sarshoghi shares his personal story to communicate those crucial lessons. Fully understanding the complexities of running a business is not possible until you are already shoulders deep in the process, but these essential tips can help you stay afloat during those difficult beginnings. Since the goal of working for yourself-running your own schedule and your own life-is one worth fighting for, this intelligent businessman shares with you the lessons he learned about identifying risks early on and adhering to good practices that will serve your business well. Divulging the author's personal insights and the wisdom that comes from years of experience, this helpful guide provides basic-but indispensable-entrepreneurial tools. While there's no such thing as a silver bullet for any business, these secrets and strategies will soon put any hard worker on the road to success.

Author Information

Reza Sarshoghi got his first taste of entrepreneurship while watching his father and uncles run their own businesses in Iran. Inspired, he supported himself through his electrical-engineering studies by running a trading company for imported Turkish hand tools. After serving two years in the Iranian military, he immigrated to Canada in the early 1990s. Sarshoghi initially worked in a small carpet store in Westmount, eventually buying the business and turning it into the largest floor-covering enterprise in Quebec. Learning many crucial business lessons during this experience, he went on to open several home-goods stores and cafes. In his early forties, he earned an MBA from Queen's University, and since that time, his business ventures have multiplied, spanning industries ranging from real estate to family entertainment. His philanthropic efforts include partnering with Operation Enfant Soleil and supporting L'Oasis. He was assisted in writing Dream beyond Borders by Calvin Bowry.
