OverviewThe importance of innovation and technology today brings with it a need for change in the definition of doctoral education, in the training of researchers, doctoral research itself, and in the dissemination areas targeted by doctoral theses. In Europe, doctoral education is the focus of wide-ranging reform in order to achieve coherence in higher education. Doctoral Education in Architecture: Challenges and Opportunities deals with a topic on which there is currently little literature available. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationGülsün Sağlamer is a Professor of Architecture and former Rector of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) (1996–2004). She has also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Cambridge University (1975–1976), and Visiting Professor at Queen’s University of Belfast (1993–1996), and as a Board Member of the European University Association (2005–2009). She has served as Chair of the Advisory Group of MSCA since 2013, and as a member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters since 2011. The American Institute of Architects awarded her an Honorary Fellowship (Hon FAIA) in 2006.Fatma Erkök is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of Istanbul Technical University (ITU), where she received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees. She has also worked as a Visiting Scholar at IUAV (1997) and TUDelft (2007). Her research focuses on doctoral education in architecture, water-city relationships and transformations, and body-space relationships in architecture.
