Overview

This book has been designed specifically for students of Spanish as a foreign language at an intermediate level. The main objective is to improve vocabulary, whilst revising grammar and introducing students to literature in Spanish at an accessible level. Each of the 12 short stories highlights a certain grammatical structure(s) and comes with exercises covering vocabulary, reading comprehension, and literary analysis. This allows students to practise reading, writing, and speaking skills, with solutions located at the end of the book. Students also have access to the stories in audio format in different accents from around the Spanish speaking world and to an online forum to discuss the stories with students from other parts of the world. These features make this book an ideal resource for use in the classroom or for independent study. Author Information

Alfredo Herrero de Haro holds a B.A. in English (Universidad de Almería, Spain), a Diploma in Advanced Studies (UNED, Spain) and a PhD in Linguistics (cum laude) from UNED (Spain). He spent eight years in the UK teaching Spanish as a foreign language in secondary schools, at a Sixth Form college and as a part-time tutor at the Centre for Modern Languages of the University of Birmingham. Since 2013, he has been lecturing at the University of Wollongong (Australia). His research focuses on phonetics, phonology, language variation and the acquisition of Spanish pronunciation by students of Spanish as a foreign language. To date, he has published over 20 research papers and nine educational resources for students of Spanish as a foreign language.
