DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE: HUMAN RESOURCES INITIATIVES is a provocative book of readings, both case studies and critical commentaries, that tackles what some refer to as the issue of the 1990s: managing diversity in the workplace. This book has much to offer both of its intended audiences, researchers, and practitioners...The strengths of this book are its organization, and editing, its reliance on case studies of ongoing organizational efforts, and its critical assessment of both the case studies and the topic in general. Practitioners should find a wealth of good ideas, practical tips, and other information they might want totry in their own organizations. You learn not only what the other organizations are doing, but you also get enough detail to see how they are doing it...Overall, I believe this book makes a valuable contribution to the human resource management literature by providing a broad perspective on diversity and by illustrating a variety of approaches for dealing with it. It is both provocative and practical and the commentaries provide a balance of critical perspectives.... You should read this book if (a) you haven't read anything about diversity and you want to learn something about it or (b) you've read some of the popular books about diversity but you were turned off by their one-best-way approach. In addition, if you are currently doing research on the topic of diversity, or if you are thinking about doing research in this area, this book will be of interest to you. -- Personnel Psychology <br> Finally, a book that tells the stories of real organizations actually working through the many issues of workforce diversity.
