Overview

Discourse analysis is a key theoretical and methodological approach used by scholars across the arts, humanities and social sciences. There has been a dramatic surge of interest in this approach since the early 1990s and it has become increasingly important and influential in disciplines as diverse as linguistics, geography, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, psychology, gender studies and history. This book is an introductory text for students who are new to discourse analysis. It locates the approach among different theoretical and methodological traditions, sets out the key principles of discourse analysis, and considers the debates and dilemmas raised by the use of this approach. It is clearly written and illustrated with vivid and up to date examples and case studies, targeted at an international audience.
